A gift for all of us

We are four queers who love this community so much that we spent the last year building something special to honor it.

This event was born out of a longing for queer space in nature. Fabulosa, started by co-producer Jenny Hoyston, ran for 15 years in California and ended with a magical gathering in 2022. For many of us it was a place that felt like home in a way few places ever do. After Fabulosa ended, there were dreams of bringing it back, or creating an updated Texas version. Endless conversations about how and where became plots hatched over drinks and text threads that went on for years. But maybe they were just dreams, because there was no way these dykes could afford it, right? Putting on an event like this costs more than just love.

Then grief cracked everything open. After the unexpected loss of Lindsay’s mother, and after we lost our beloved Pilou and Stacy far too soon, Lindsay and Ellie found resources they didn’t know existed and kept returning to one idea: creating a space like Fab for our people, right now, when we need it most. They knew this couldn’t happen alone. There was no version without Jenny’s wisdom after years of building Fabulosa, and no way forward without Beth Schindler, whose experience and trust within this community are essential. The fact that Jenny and Beth said yes is what really made this dream start to become a reality. And then we found River Forest Haven, the kind of land that we had been dreaming about, owned and operated by great humans (shout out to Albert and James).

We all carry grief. And the grief is not only personal but collective. We’re carrying heartbreak in witnessing genocide, violence, injustice, and a world unraveling in real time. And through it all, our community continues to show up with courage, compassion, and love.

So that is why we are here now. Hours and resources, all poured into a gift, an act of gratitude for this community and for everyone who came before us and made spaces like this possible. This gift is inspired by Pilou and Stacy and Katrina and for all our people no longer with us. This gift is for YOU.

Come ready to receive it.

This joy belongs to all of us. 🌈🔥

With our whole hearts,

Lindsay, Ellie, Jenny & Beth

Shelter Locations

Shelter 1 (Primary Shelter)

Located near the pool and stage.

This is the primary designated shelter location during severe weather.

  4. Assist children or anyone needing help.

  5. Do not attempt to drive unless directed by staff.

Safety is the priority. Personal belongings can be retrieved once the storm has passed.

• LCRA Text Alert System (flood and dam release notifications)
National Weather Service (weather.gov)
